I was expecting this to have something to do with alligators....

It's common practice for them to put repealers in bills. There are several bills introduced right now that their entire purpose is to extend repealer dates. I think the main purpose of a repealer is to help get something controversial passed by saying it will expire. Many times the expiration date is just extended continually. I am fairly certain that the law currently in place has a repeal date already and this will just extend it as well as make other changes to it.

The biggest thing in this bill is dropping the cost of a lifetime license for children under 6 and adding a line that allows children under 18 months to be exempt from the requirement of 18 months of continuous residency.

There is a similar bill, also in the house, that also restructures the costs for Lifetime licenses for children: http://billstatus.ls.sta.../0400-0499/HB0487IN.pdf

I support this, it'll save me some money. At first I thought it was going to raise the price.

I'm not sure what a class II violation is - but apparently it carries less of a penalty than what the current class ?? violation is (it's either class 1 or Class 3 - maybe a CO can help us out here).

Personally, I look forward to the day when any citizen can buy a tag as they do in LA. It's coming. These weekend seasons on the REZ and on private land (which to me seems to benefit people with enough money to have that much land WITH that much water) will be expanded eventually.

I don't know enough about this bill to say if it's good or bad. If alligators were endangered in MS I'd be against this for sure - but the population is increasing and eventually they will have less protection. The laws surrounding their harvest will change accordingly.

I'm with you CW there is a rat in the wood pile. MDWFP alligator program coordinator Ricky Flynt has done an outstanding job leading the alligator program, educating the public, managing hunts, etc. In short he is a shining star for the department.

Rep Bo Eaton who is not even a member of the Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee (he was chair last year-- http://ballotpedia.org/w...ouse_of_Representatives) and
has more bills bills up than anyone else. HB842, HB863, and HB1179-- http://billstatus.ls.sta...pdf/house_cmtes/wi.xml.

I am missing something here? The purpose of the MDWFP is to protect our resources. What does this bill have to do with the price of eggs in China! OhMyGod

The change is in paragraph 4 decreasing a violation to class II.
