I just got a call from a friend and he asked me if I knew about this land in Raymond. He had gotten an email about them having openings and forwarded it to me. I laughed when I saw the name had changed to Hallowed Ground Hunting Club but it was still the same ole TLR. I did notice that they will be back gun hunting again this year. This may not be breaking news but I found it funny.

That's funny. I got an email yesterday from a buddy asking if I knew anything about Hallowed Ground Hunting Club, he said T Logan ran it so I told him I didn't know anything about that club but knew that TRL ran BRHC in Raymond....then he told me this club was in Raymond and I then realized BRHC was no longer He wanted my opinion and I gave it to him. Of course I gave it two thumbs up.

No fines. He must have purchased all of his turkey gear for the upcoming season. AND, AND, AND State rules on bucks.

Why in the heck would he got to "state limit" on bucks? He trying to piss the adjoining landowners off? Something fishy here...bad.

Assuming that the first buck we saw that Ally found netted P&Y ( should have) and the only other rack buck was killed by TLR and no way will net P&Y, I'm guessing their goal for 4 or more P&Y bucks fell a little short. So based on those results and the number of hunters, plus the fact TLR hunts almost daily and hogs the best spots for himself, if your a member your odds of killing a P&Y buck will occur about every 25 years!

"This year we only killed 6 does with bow only hunting (plus 2 nice bucks and 2 nubbs)." seems to fall short of what was to be expected off this piece of property this time last year.

Yea, I think it all boils down to the bowhunting only thing not working this year, which was obviously a desperate move to attract new members in the first place...we all know he almost lost the lease this past summer even with the new and exciting bowhunting only camp. I guess he saw the writing on the wall that it was going to be VERY hard to fill memberships for next season after the bow-only experiment didn't pan out so he had to make another drastic change which was: no fines, state regs, and a new name for the club. You would hope he turned over a new leaf but I think it's more about hanging on to the lease than him releasing control and acting normal. It's the HGHC soap opera.

This was TLR's response to why he changed everything up.
Can't we all just get along? :) :P B)
A- Landowners are dear friends of mine (no pun intended) and we are not killing enough deer to prevent damage to their crops.
B- 2 more button bucks this year + 2 button bucks, a 1.5 and a 2.5 last year + a 1.5 and 2.5 the year before + a 1.5 and 2.5 the year before that- you cant do that on 900 acres and accomplish mature buck goals. These are the club illegal deer that I know about- does not include the "sneak em out" bucks!
C- If there basically are no rules, then nobody can break the rules! That means I don't have to enforce the rules which is a supreme hassle. Darn shame a bunch of men cant follow the rules they have agreed to follow but they can't help themselves. I got a decade of experience and I am here to tell you that most MS deer hunters cannot lay off. At some point, the "gotta kill" instinct kicks in and they are gonna adopt "brown is down" approach. Even on nubbers with a bow! If you cant beat em, join em! Forget the rules- just hunt!
D- I got other places to hunt. 1 place will be bow only cause I enjoyed the heck out of that last year at Raymond. My buddy David and I will be hunting there and it will be epic. 2 other places will be state rules on weapons. All three will be mature bucks only unless 3.5 and net 125" or better. I also got invited to join Delta club. Top secret on this one but I cant wait. It is not my club. It is state rules club but me and buddy that got me in will hunt trophy bucks only. It is big enough and in right place where young deer can be shot and he and I still have upside.
E- My son prefers ducks over deer. After 11 years of deer first, duck second, I am ready to buy another dog and go back to duck first, deer second. I have killed a 115-130 every year for the last decade or so and then held out for something bigger, passing many, many, many bucks of that size. (5 or 6 per year for the last 5 years). This year, I am gonna kill the first three bucks that I see that are 3.5 years old and net at least 125" so I can get on the ducks sooner.
All this being said, the state rules are not a factor for mature buck hunting in 2012-13 and maybe not 2013-14. Sure over time, the quality of the herd will decline relative to its current state but less does might mean more mature buck activity in the daylight and in the open. Plenty of mature bucks killed in MS on clubs with state rules so we give it try and see what happens. Hate that so many young bucks got shot over the last 5 years but it is what it is and I got to do what I got to do. Let the fur fly!

I had a feeling that reason A was going to happen. The landowner is serious about reducing the number of crop eaters and I certainly cant blame them. It is a simple matter of economics when a ditch goat eats up your profits.
It was hard for us to get close to our landowner's quota with guns and would have been impossible had we been bow hunting. His adjoining landowners had a down year as well. Should be some jam up hunting next year in that area.
