You have ever had to wait to get your deer meat order back? Sunday will be 6 weeks for me. By far the longest I've ever had to wait for my meat to be ready.

A week or two and then I'd be asking a lot of questions.

The LAST time I used S&D, it was 6 months. I was skeptical on eating it then. Depending on how much you bring in and what you get done, I would say no longer than 2 weeks on one deer, three on 2 deer.

I have used the same processor for several years now, and it depends on how far along in the season he is. If it is early bow season, I get my deer back in a matter of days. If it is during the mad rush after christmas through the first week of january, he has had to freeze it before, and that took probably about 6 weeks or so to get back. He is upfront and honest though, if he is gonna have to freeze it, he tells you it will be first of feb. before he starts working on frozen. I doesn't bother me because I like getting my own deer back.

6 weeks from Dwight's on a regular basis - if it is after the Christmas rush. I killed one on January 7th and drove it straight to him from the property. He does my skinning for me too ($35). I got it back a week ago today (so, got it back on Feb. 20th) It has been like that with him for the 10 years I have been bringing him my deer - back when he was the "D" part of S&D. Never have a problem with taste or quality.

It is not Van's (which I do prefer their sausage) but Van's is an easy 40 minute drive from the property. On the interstate. Dwight's is on they way back to the house.

I sure would hate to be one of them skinnin fellers - some days they have them stacked up like cord-wood.

I dropped 45lbs of boned-out venison & 13lbs of pork fat off at Fortenberry's in Hennleyfield at 3:45pm 2/22/2012. About 4pm on 2/24/2012, I picked up ~52lbs of awesome smoked link sausage.

That was the first time I've used them...I Will be using them again.

Funny you should say that about Sportsmans. I know two folks that dropped deer off there in January and unless they got their meat back in the last week/week and a half, they're still waiting.

I though I was the only celebrity on this forum???? BigGrin

Actually, I got someone to answer the phone today and they said it was ready. I went straight from work to pick it up. When I got home I decided to cook some sausage for dinner. Well I cooked it up and it tasted very funny to say the least. I couldn't even finish it and I'll eat anything. My wife had some and agreed that it had a funny taste. I"m not sure if all of it will taste this way but needless to say they have lost my business. It's a shame because I had heard some good things about this place. This was my first and last time to use them.

I didn't have a good experience with Sportsmans either. 9 weeks to get my meat back, bad sausage that they admitted to, and would not refund money, wanted to do credit or exchange for meat they had in the back. I will not ever step foot in the place again and plan on letting everyone I can know how they treat customers, the manager was very helpful but the owner was not, said it was policy for no refunds but no where in the store is that mentioned. So proceed with caution if you use them.

I've never gotten bad meat back from Sportsmans but they did mess my last order up. I've used them the last two years, but it sure doesn't look like I'll be using them next year. Wow. I think I'm going to start processing my own.

I finally got them on the phone Saturday. I told him my meat was bad and he told me that they had a batch of tainted pork trimmings come through. He said I could take a credit or come swap it out but no refund. Well I didn't want to take a credit because I don't plan on every going back there. I took the sausage straight up there and he apologized and swapped it out. I tried some of the "new" stuff yesterday and it is still bad. The spoiled taste is not as strong but you can still taste it. I haven't even tried my burger yet but I'm guessing it is probably bad too. It's very frustrating when you wait 11 weeks to get your meat back and then it tastes spoiled. I guess I will call them back to see if I can swap again but it looks like I may just have to take a loss on this batch.

I wouldn't take him processed hamburger meat. Always had problems with him. The last time I used him (S&D) it was close to 4 months to get my meat back. It was so long that I forgot what I even ordered and what I owed was sky high. Some like him, I don't. And tell everyone I know not to use him.

Had bad experiences with having my deer processed, and have for some years now processing my own. It's time consuming, and especially when you want to make sausage or such, but you know what the meat has in it, that you get your own deer back, and exactly how its been handled. No one in my family seems to ahve any trouble with deer i have processed myself. Besides, knowing i have all that work ahead of me when i kill a deer helps me to be more selective about my killing deer as well.
