If you are hunting private land you all you need is a license that covers turkeys. If you are wanting to hunt public you may need a WMA or NWR permit to get started. Some public is draw hunts only or opens after the "regular season" opens. If you are looking into public land do your homework on that specific block of public. The MDWFP offices will usually answer the phone if you can't find the answer in the Rules and Regs on public.

Buckman, I have not been able to find information on, or anywhere to buy a turkey permit.
For private land, you are covered. Turkey permits are only required for non-residents. Your sportsman's license is all you need. Some public lands (WMAs, NWR) require a WMA user permit, NWR permit, or quota (Draw hunt) permit. That is what the poster above was referencing.
