We can start submitting photos tomorrow[biggrin][biggrin]
I added some information about the Food Pantry to the website. Let's not forget where the entry fees are going and how much good they do with the money.
I just wanted to put this out here so everyone can see what the money is going to,no better cause can be found than feeding the hungry...

All entry fees for the tournament are being donated to the Divine Grace Baptist Church Food Pantry.

Divine Grace Baptist Church Food Pantry has been in operation going on 12 years now. They operated for about 8 years at another church and about 4 years at the current church.

They provide food to 30 - 40 families on a monthly basis and that number fluctuates continuously.

They receive 4 units of USDA food each month from the 12 Baskets distribution center. The USDA food is never enough by itself so they buy additional food from the 12 Baskets distribution center in Gulfport at an average cost of .18 - .19 cents per pound. 12 Baskets also have food that is classify as "Plus Up" food, that is priced at a higher cost but most of the time still slightly cheaper than retail.

All additional food that is bought to supplement the USDA food is bought with a small budget from the church and totally from donations from individuals.

They also operate the Backpack Weekend Food Program, which provides the Pineville Elementary School out of the same budget. When school resumes they will be providing food every weekend for approximately 120 students who qualify for the free lunch program at the Pineville Elementary school. The food pantry and the Backpack Program are 501 C3 programs.

If you would like to make additional donations, please contact

Jim Barnes (aka SJ on Bull Nettler)

I can't find either one using the online 501 C3 verification tool.

Is it possible they operate under different names than given? If so, what are they?

I'm all for supporting local charities, but have been burned in the past on some that claimed to be 501 C3 that turned out not to be legit, so I make it a habit to verify before donating.

The food pantry and the backpack program operate off of the BMA of MS' 501 C3. You can contact the 12 Basket organization, the Bay Area Food Bank of Alabama that we also belong to and buy food from or the Pineville Elementary school to verify what we do. If that doesn't work for you then you probably should just hang on to your cash to be on the safe side.[wink]

Not finding a listing for "BMA of MS". What is the EIN number?

And please don't take my request the wrong way. Every 501c3 coordinator I've ever dealt with in the past is glad to share verification information, as it is a sign of a reputable charity that has been through an extensive verification process.

Unfortunately, since it is the sign of a reputable charity, many less scrupulous groups often misrepresent themselves as being 501c3 affiliated when they really aren't, and then they usually get indignant and defensive when questioned.

I'm sure that isn't the case with you guys and you do great work and all, but since it was stated up front that you were 501c3, I'd just like to see some verification of that claim. This is a normal everyday process for actual 501c3 organizations.
For example, I've done a lot of work with the Wounded Warrior Project, a legitimate 501c3. Their EIN is 20-2370934.

See how easy that is?
I have no problem with you inquiring about our legitimacy and more than happy getting you an EIN number but I will be honest and state that I will have to get it as I do not know what the BMA EIN number is and not even sure I know what that is. The BMA of MS stands for Baptist Missionary Association of MS which our church is a member of. When my wife and I initially created the food pantry at Riverside Baptist Church it operated off of the 501 C3 status that Riverside Baptist church already had. When we moved the food pantry to it's present home at Divine Grace Baptist Church the pastor inquired about a 501 C3 status for the food pantry because Divine Grace did not have a individual 501 C3 assigned to it and you cannot even belong to the 12 Baskets or the Bay Area of Alabama food banks or receive USDA food without having 501 C3 status. When he inquired about it through the BMA they advised him that the food pantry could operate through their 501 C3 status which we found to be correct after looking into it. The food pantry per say itself does not have a personal 501C3 status but operates legally as a non profit organization through the manner I just tried to explain.

You can say that again. Tens of millions a year are fraudulently collected on behalf of phony charities. People really need to do their research to make sure the gift goes where they think it goes.
Just got off the ph with Public Information Director and treasurer for the BMA of MR Don Brown and he said he will get me the EIN. I will post it as soon as I get it.
Just wanted to say thanks mr sj for being a better man than i could be....and i would like to say that sj was approached after the fact to see if he would accept the donations, he did'nt solicit this,it was offered not to him but the people he helps. Anyone with any tact at all could have handled any questions concerning the massive $5 entry fee via PM but then they would'nt have gotten the attention they seem to desperately seek.
fishingdonk it's all good brother. It's not worth it to let it get to you. I will post the EIN number as soon as I get it and that will be that.
Hey Shanky, pm me your address and I'll send you the $5 for the entry fee. This is absolutely absurd.
Thanks for the info SJ.

And for the rest of you getting so upset, rest assured that it is actually very common for those that deal with charitable contributions to ask for and receive an EIN when making a charitable donation or in verifying a 501c3 staus. You guys are acting like you've never made a tax deductible charitable contribution before. Get with the the program.
I had the privilege to meet SJ, not long after I move to the coast and know the caliber of man he is, so for me it was an easy decision where we should send the little bit of money we raise from this thing. Regardless any official status.

Anyone that has spent more than a few minutes with SJ will quickly learn just how genuine he is.

That being said, since we did mention the 501c3 status, Shanky has every right to ask about it, and I also understand why SJ didn't readily have the information, because he is more involved in the People end of the operation, than the paper work side of things.

I am glad the question has been asked and answered. Now back to having some fun!

Did anyone get on any good trash fish today?

Unfortunately we were to busy catching Triple Tail and Black tips to hit some of my honey holes. Wonder how Capt Ronnie would react if I tried to charter him for a Hardhead trip?
