In south Florida. Can you imagine hunting in south Florida in 95 degree heat and 95% humidity? It must be miserable. You'd better have your cooler with bags of ice sitting right under your stand. Drop the deer, bone him out immediately, and get it into the cooler.

Supposedly, they did this to coincide with the rut which happens mid August to mid September down there.

Yup it would be miserable. Season also opens in parts of South Carolina August 15th.
Ours in Georgia opens up September 13 I believe...it's gonna be a scorcher
I've heard some say they wish MS would open theirs Sept 15th. Maybe when I was younger, but no thank you now. I don't think they make a Thermocell big enough to fight off them Big Black skeeters at that time of year.

You ain't lying. October is bad enough
jdog, it's funny you mention big black skeeters. Since moving here I've only seen relatively small mosquitos. Yes, they are just as nasty as the big ones I was used to in Fl but I'm wondering if there is a different species up in this part of the state. They just don't get nearly as big as what I'm used to. I'm talking half the size.
When I was saying Big Black mosquitoes, I was referring to the ones that live in the Big Black river corridor. They actually have racing stripes on them. They will stand flat footed and make love to a turkey.

^^^ They also cast a shadow the size of a small plane at times.
move it the other way

I wish that they would move all of our hunting seasons to 2 weeks later in the year. They can keep everything exactly the same but shift it all 2 weeks. It sure would be nice to be able to sit in the tree bow hunting without having to listen to my sweat drip on the leaves on the ground.
