In leflore where I hunt. 3 year olds are normally from 200-225 and the big four year olds 215-245 depending on when you kill them. Heaviest ever 258 pounds and two others went a smooth 250. On a side note every really really old buck i have ever killed were in the 175-200 range and I'm talking deer whose teeth indicated they were 6+
From the late 80's through the late mid 90's we killed 3.5 to 4.5 year old bucks that would weigh 190 to 220, but by the late mid 90's, after a few years of the asinine 4 pt plan fiasco, our average weights dropped into the 160-180 range. Heaviest ever was a 235 in '91 and a 230 in '96, since then we have only had 2 bucks even get to 200, one in '03 and then one in '09. This year the 2 bucks that were killed only weighed 155 and 160, both 3.5 years old and were the best bucks spotted on the property in person or on camera.
We had significantly better hunting, better bucks, and more of them prior to the 4 pt plan and the all season doe slaughter when we supposedly had to many does, to many deer, and they were all hungry because of the alleged over population.
In my personal opinion, which is based on personal experiences enumerated above, the management policies of the MDWFP, which seems to be rooted in a devotion to the QDM mentality and mantra and driven by the auto insurance industry, has destroyed the quality of the hunting experience in my area of the state, that being Jefferson County.
