What did everybody think of the quality and number of entries this year? It seemed a little down from past years. Does anybody know who won the different categories?

It showed me how freakin big a 140" deer really is. To all those folks who say the saw a 140 or 150" deer in the back pasture or while hunting.....uh, probably not. My archery buck from last year missed 125" by 1.2 inches!!! So close.
I agree wetland man a lot of folks don't have a clue how big a 150in deer really is
My big buck only netted 144-1/8 but he grossed 151-2/8.. When they score these deer I think they do it so quick we lose a few inches... Never know..

i took my deer two and the final score was 124 4/8, missed it by a 1/2 inch. it grossed 129 5/8. I was so close.
I think they should do away w/ that "net" junk anyway. Give the deer credit for what it grew. It should be gross score and that's it. Just my 2¢…

This is 100% accurate. A 140 is a studd, much less 150 and up. A lot of folks have never seen a legit 150 so of it's the biggest deer they've ever seen they just throw that number on it. Also, there is an enormous difference between a skinnin shed scored 140 and an official 140. I have grinned and bit my tongue many a time when being shown "140-150" inch bucks.

That said a score is nothin but a reference point and doesn't represent the true meaning of a trophy deer.
Most people don't bring their deer to the ganza anymore because of the scoring. Funny how the deer scored at various location are always way more than rescored at the ganza for the magnolia records. And I've heard that drying time shrinkage crap. But I had a deer scored twice and it scored less the second time by almost 4 1/2" and I didn't erase the pencil marks from the first time after the 60 day drying period. You'll see more cussing and fussing at the ganza about deer scoring than anywhere else.

The ganza makes you question some of the scoring when deer are close by the naked eye but 10+" difference in score.

Like posted earlier. Net is for a fish
well i kinda figured my deer would score just around lower 120's. My taxi said he was 128. and i wasn't going to take him to the ganza and my father in law and wife talked me into it. He ended up 124 4/8. So I didn't make the mag records. Real close. When i killed him I knew he was nice but I was thinking then he was like 115 or so. I wasn't going to mount it. Just skull mount him and my wife talked me into that. He is the biggest deer I have ever killed, and to kill it with my bow was awesome. I may never kill one as big as him but i hope to. I have seen bigger deer than him in the road but never on the stand. I saw that big deer that was taking illegal on East ave before he was killed. I know he was a beast.
There were lots of real nice deer this year but the amount of deer were lower than years past. I took my first deer to the ganza this year (except one for my wife many years ago who took fisrt place in archery). The horn guru's at my camp had scored my deer at 152 1/8 (gross). I finally got it back from taxi the Friday ganza started so he had a 2.5 year drying time(waiting on a slow taxi). They scored him at 148 1/2 gross and 144 3/8 net and he is now my first official Pope and Yong. My question is how much shrinkage is involved during a 60 day drying time and for me after 2.5 year drying time does a deer horn really loose?
The #1 problem is that 95% of the people "scoring" deer at the skinning sheds don't know what they are doing.
And of the ones that do, 80% of them don't know how to properly get the net score. Especially if there is an abnormal point or 2, as they count against you double.

I always have my deer scored by pope & young, then bring the score sheet up to the ganza with it.
Used to get every one scored, now I just refrain from shooting one that I wouldn't be proud of. I've shot does that I considered trophies, you know those old, smart, cow eared ones that find you no matter where you are and blow and blow and blow.
