Will be done for a few days with my family and my father in law is bringing his pontoon boat to try and fish some. Any pointers on where we should give it a shot would be welcomed. Do you think we could go out to taylor reef ok or would it even be worth the effort.

I was thinking about just trying to catch some big uglies at the RR bridge. Any drum bring caught around there yet or Is it too early?

Thanks in advance

Almost always some drum and sheepies around the bridges. May even hit a jack in the bay. The trout north of the RR bridge is very slow right now. On a decent day you wouldn't have any problems getting to Taylors and back especially launching out of the Washington St launch. Should be some fish on Taylors.
Thanks SJ you are a great asset to this board always willing to help someone out with info.
I wish I had more to give you but last time in the bay (Tuesday) Willie and me found very little. If I was going to stay in the bay I would go to the west side north of the Jordan and fish for reds around the bayous.

If you fish Taylor's on an incoming tide, work the NE corner; outgoing tide work the SE corner. Look for breaks in the rocks where the water comes through and work a good 5-8 yard either side of the break, 10-12 yards out right up to the break. That seems to work for me.
Good Luck!
Taylor's has been hit or miss lately, but mainly miss. I did catch a quick limit there Mon morning, but I talked to 3 other boats out there and only one of them had caught 2 trout and all the ones I had were 13-16" school trout. They have not been hitting live croakers or shrimp like they usually do this time of year.
Every reef from Pass to bayou caddy is loaded with mullet and glass minnows right now and the trout seem to be keying on the mullet. I have been finding a point or break where the mullet are stacked up and catching 3-4 trout under them and then moving to the next school. But a trolling motor is a must and it will be tough to do this in a pontoon. Also the lady fish have been very thick in the evenings and have made targeting trout almost impossible, but for whatever reason they have not been near as bad in the mornings.
Has anyone been catching many larger trout anywhere along the front beach this summer? I have been catching plenty of trout but I have had trouble finding any of the bigger females that I have caught in the past summers. I think most of them probably moved to the islands and marsh with all the fresh water we had in the spring.

So for some drum and sheepshead by the bridges, what's the best option? Dead shrimp on the bottom? I'm doing the same possibly with my young girls and want to just to let them catch something.
Dead shrimp, cut mullet, and Kyle's (The Sheep whisperer) favorite for sheepies fiddler crabs.
We went to the jail house reef yesterday morning and caught 7 nice specks 22"-24" and about 10 sheepshead.

This morning we went to the RR bridge and caught some puppy drum a few legal reds and 3 big black drum in the 30-40# range my 6 and 9 year old boys had a blast fighting them. We finished up catching some white trout in the river before the boys gave out.

Thanks for the report.

Also saw capt Ronnie at roscoe's this morning. He was rocking his David's custom tackle shirt.
So where is jail house reef? If I can ask...

Over in Waveland going towards the Silver Slipper and east of Buccaneer State park.
