Absolutely beautiful conditions out there Friday, Saturday and this morning.
Left Gulfport harbor with 2 boats (5 fisherman) Friday morning around 430. Arrived at Chandy a bit after sunrise. Drifted all the grass beds and boated about 30 specks. Ran to Freemason - got blanked down there. Returned to the island to eat dinner. Went flounder gigging and got three.
Saturday morning we went back to the grass beds and picked up where we left off. Boated a quick 15 and then they turned off...Ran further south near Redfish point...looked like 1 or 2 of the charters were down there. Did better down there for sure. Ended with about 40 or so. Waded along the surf side and actually sight fished for redfish. They would cruise on by and eat anything thrown in front of them. Sharks everywhere...got 2 reds in and lost around 4 to blacktips.
Fished the surf side real quick this morning and caught a couple more reds.
Final tally: 44 trout and 7 reds...not our best but it was a blast.

Nice weather, caught some fish and didn't get shark bit. Pretty good trip.
Sounds a lot more fun than my weekend! Congrats Brother!
Awesome! Glad y'all had a good trip. I'll post our results this time next week.
Forgot to mention that all fish were caught on plastics. Mostly Matrix shad and Saltwater assassins (pink & purple colors).
I'm heading down there when this weather gives me a break. Maybe we can coordinate JB and you can come with.
sounds like an awesome trip! Chandy is so nice & relaxing!
Chief - You got it brother, anytime just let me know!
Loneoak23 - The water was crystal clear...about 10' visibility on both sides of the island.
Troutman - You hit the nail right on the head - definitely a special place!

I would love to make that trip. Sounds like a blast. I have heard the sharks have been so bad out there that I doubt I would wade fish. And also from the report I am not going all that way just to come home with 44 trout. That is a nice number for fishing inshore wading but not going that far for those numbers. Read an article in the SunHerald by Barry Foster that talked about the sharks and why they have not been catching trout there in numbers lately. SHARKS!
I have been 25+ times over the last 27 years and we have noticed a decline in the catching, but we will keep going as long as there is something of Chandeleur left. The way I look at it. 3 days of no cell phones, emails, internet, honey do's or anything else, just spending time with friends and family taking a break. I know it's fairly expensive but you can't stay in a hotel 3 nights and pay for 3 meals a day for much less. The fishing is a bonus but the entire trip is well worth it even if the fishing part may be a little slow.
