How many people figure all of our communication on pending legislation ended the forum. I figure someone up top said there is no way we are going to provide a place for people to openly rally support against us. I've been wondering the status of the new bills also, but have yet to find anything out.

I'd imagine that it had something to do with it.

Personally I wonder if the demise of the MDWFP's forum will lessen the public's awarness of the MDWFP. I became very familar with the department as a result of the Forum. Wont be long and my knowledge of them will deminish. Maybe that's a good thing?

Yes, I think so. I figure the new bill will be passed officially on Monday so they wanted to cut the snakes head off before then so as not to be bombarded with public outcry from the forum. Heck I wouldrather be over here anyway.  Mr. Morgan et.al are my kinda folks! Glad to be here andhope this thing takes off like wildfire. I really enjoy talking with you fellas and believe it or not, this forum has got me thru some tough times.

I wouldn't think so.  Besides, if it did it was thier fault.  What are we supposed to do not talk about how STUP...i mean talk about how the new regulation would impact us.  I would think they would have benifited from the input from us.  It probably got too personal at times but they stepped on a lot of traditions and toes when they started trying to change things.  I wouldn't be passing or taking the blame for it's demise.  I think this has been a long time comming.  I seem to remember some talk about them going back to an answer and quesiton format a couple years ago before the archery season stuff.

I think that will be a huge loss that will be hard to replace on another site. How many of those dept guys are going to come over here and participate like they did before.

Personally I think it had about 99% to do with it. I think the department made a decision to publically back something and had no idea that the feedback would be so strong in opposition that the only thing they could do was to shut it down. Can you imagine if alot of that stuff passes the uproar that there could possibly be.

I understand that the MDWFP Forum was a state funded and moderated forum, but what did they expect?!? It's a FORUM... If people aren't free to discuss their thoughts, good or bad, pro or con, intelligent or dumb, then what's the point to having a public forum? I feel like the move to shut down the old forum was a shoddy attempt at silencing the thoughts of the very people who the legislation will impact....

On that note, I want to thank everyone who got the new forum up and running. It looks great and I'm glad to see familiar names registering and posting.

First let me say that I don't know why they shut the forums down. I'm not privy to know but I suspect the reasoning might be different than many expect.

In some ways I think 'The Forums' evolved into THE outdoor social networking website of Mississippi. As such, it likely interfered with not only the day to day business of the MDWFP, but also likely hampered some political agendas of the department. There is no doubt that politically the forums were a strong influence. People learned about information that they never would have never known otherwise, spread it to others, and when multiplied by the thousands of users likely created a counter balance to some of the more unpopular issues that were being pushed by the wildlife agency.

Rather than reasoning the department not wanting to hear of the outcry of protest in the passage of certain bills, it could be the other swing of the pendelum...that it prevented MDWFP sponsored bills from being passed partly because of their own forum. To that regard, they may have wanted to silence the forums to help in future legislation.

Whether this is right (or not) I guess time will tell.

My personal opinion is that there were several reasons, but I feel the main one was opposition to their sponsored bills and the negative feedback they recieved. But one thing for sure guys, we have not lost the battle yet, and if the bills are passed it will be on Tuesday. But I hope they never see the light of day!!!
