Friday's weather and Marine forecast

OK so I'm trying to make my plans for Friday moring and I am seeing two different Marine forecasts. One calls for 1 foot or less and the other calls for 1-2's. If I had a larger boat, I wouldn't care but since I'm floating a 17 footer, it makes a big difference on where I can go. Do any of you have a reliable report you use?

Inshore..not trying to be a smart @##..BUT if the 1' of wave height makes a BIG difference on where you can go. play it safe and stay relatively close. This time of year in the coastal waters you will have that much flucuation between 1-2 ft almost hourly.. distant squalls, heating of the land, sea breeze etc. No reports can nail it down that close this time of year..

Heres the thing. Yesterday the same report that has 1-2's had 3-4's. 1-2's I can handle but 3-4's will keep me off the water all together. I also put my 8 year old in the boat with me on most trips and if we run to Cat (as far as I will ever run on my boat) on a good day its fine but 2 footers on the way back make for a wet ride. Its not necessarily unsafe, just not a pleasent ride. I know nothing is certain and conditions change rapidly but just seeing if anyone has a report they use the most and tend to trust the most. I guess I will jsut look at them all and take the average. [biggrin]
Just wait until 24-36hrs prior to your run. And then check again that morning.

This!![thumbup] The report I'm looking at says Waves 1-1.6ft and wave period 3-6.. I'm going to be out Thursday-Sunday so I will be checking every morning before I leave the house.
Inshore Special, been on the water all my life and professionaly for 38 years and since about 2 years before Katrina the prediction of sea conditions have changed dramatically. They very seldom ever get it right and if they do it is pure luck in my opinion. It seems like the norm over the last few years is 10 to 15 and 2 to 3 , may get a break in the early morn but usually by mid day its honk n and now you have to contend with the trat of squalls popping up every day.I think if i was takeing my 8 year old i woud stick to near shore so if it starts getting bad i could get to the dock pretty quick, just my 2 cents. Good luck and be Safe!!!

Good Luck! ....still twiddling thumbs.

But on a brighter note; my garage is becoming more organized!

Going to need it. My Mom and Dad are comming down so the pressure is on for me to get them a tight line. They dont care if we catch but I want them to bring home the meat! My wife wants to kick me every time she walks in the garage[lol]
Here's the one I use: http://weather.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/fmtbltn.pl?file=forecasts/marine/coastal/gm/gmz532.txt

As of now, Friday looks really nice. As mentioned, seas can change quick. Sunday morning the wind was ridiculous and it was pretty choppy, but at noon the water was slick as glass. It's good to have a backup plan. This time of year, you just have to watch the weather while you're out. Storms pop up out of nowhere everyday it seems on the water.
Windfinder / Petit Bois has been fairly accurate this year. I use local, NOAA and Sailflow and have been to the islands many times in my 15'. This time of year I do the early mornings to avoid the heat build up storms.
I would only take a small child in the calmest of conditions / forecasts.
