I know this is a Mississippi board but seeing as how the only post in this section is in regards to a place in Louisiana, I figured I'd ask:

A Mississippi friend (dudlbugr from the MDWFP board) is coming to visit and we are going fishing somewhere on the coast over the weekend starting March 19. We would love to tie into some redfish but mainly are interested in catching fish that will make the drag sing! We are going in my boat--1756 Xpress aluminum--so we won't be going terribly far from where we launch. I have some places marked on my gps in Vermillion Bay south of Lafayette. I am not familiar with any of the marshes anywhere in south Louisiana but am willing to explore or investigate!

Last year I made a couple of trips down to Fourchon, Elmer's Island, Grand Isle. I was surf/bank fishin then. I would appreciate any advice as to where to go between the Rigolets and Lafayette where we can relatively easily catch some fish. I don't have enough boat to be running lots of miles and I prefer to stick to the KISS method of fishin! I figure that nearly anywhere that there is salt water, if you throw dead shrimp on a Carolina rig, you'll catch SOMEthing! Every now and then, that something will be a redfish )

I would appreciate as specific information as y'all are willing to give. gps coordinates would be best but I understand if you don't want to be that specific. Just about anywhere we go we will be going in blind. Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure yet. We may pitch a tent at Fourchon or sleep in the truck somewhere. We haven't decided where we are headed yet but we know we want to go fishin!

I talked to dudlbugr last night and we may end up in Vermillion Bay since that is what I am most familiar with. I also have some family and friends in the area. We could probably impose on somebody to share some floor space...

I have not been down that way in a long time, but do fish delacroix/hopedale area several times a year. I talked to a buddy last night that fished delacroix last week and he caught a few trout and couple of reds...It should slowly get better as the temp warms and salinity comes back. If ya'll decide to stay on the ms gulf coast I could put you on a couple of spots close in where that xpress would be perfect.
