Good afternoon!

I stumbled upon this forum browsing the web for fishing reports. I'm going to be in the Bay St. Louis area for a few days at the end of March (26-30). I'm probably going to bring my kayak with me and see if I can have any luck catching a fish or two.

That being said, I'm definitely a beginner and would love any helpful hints you might have for fishing this area as far as location and strategy for that time of the year.

I'm not targeting a certain species, but I've yet to catch a red or a speck, so either of those would be great! I assume I'll be sticking to the shallows / river areas to keep out of the waves, so not sure if shrimp under popping corks or topwaters will do the trick that time of year? (Or even if the fish are in the shallows of rivers that time of year... [confused])

Anywho, I'd be willing to drive to another area to put in besides Bay St. Louis within a reasonable distance. I did notice La France Marina looked like a possible spot?

Best thing I can say for sure is to search archives here. And what kind of yak do you own? That's going to determine what you can really do.

Yeah, I've started to search the archives a bit and finding some tips! As for the yak, it is a Pelican Castaway 116. Certainly no Hobie, but I've had a lot of fun with it fishing in the local lakes. I know I won't be going miles offshore in it, but hoping it'll do alright in some good weather / protected areas.

Thanks! Glad to join up, as I visit the Mississippi coast pretty often. I checked out Bayou Caddy on google maps.

You recommend heading up main river (A) or the smaller windy bit (B)? Also noticed some sort of structure out near where I have point C marked... can't tell exactly what it is though.. Thanks for the tip!

Put in by the sliver slipper casino you can fish bayou caddy which runs back inland (A) on your map, or you can fish out in front of it on the beach where the star is on your map, or if the water is slick and your confident in your kayak skills you can paddle out to the reef and fish (C) on your map, (B) is a smaller canal too small for a larger bay boat to get in.

Yea Drop, I would head up the Bayou "A" and fish the points and ledges. I've had very good success using a 1/8 jig head and Lemonhead Matrix Shad. As soon as you come out of the Launch area and turn right be sure to fish around the big boat on the right. Also the next little canal on the right has been known to hold reds in the back. The reef out front can be good as well. It's a little bit early for that area but you never know. Good luck and keep us posted.

Appreciate the suggestions biglouie and wild bill. That sounds like a good plan to me. I'll definitely post an update after I go.. hopefully with some fish photos.
