Yesterday I drove west to do a little wading since I hadn't been doing too well over here on the east side. I only caught a couple shorts and lost a couple more, but I did get a chance to meet rwaite on the water. This morning I figured I'd head back towards Bay St. Louis and Waveland with my girlfriend just to spend the day. She enjoyed riding around and sitting on the beach taking pictures of old piers and birds and whatnot, and I got to do a little fishing. I ended up catching 4 specks, 2 reds, and a flounder and losing something else (felt like a nice trout) just fishing troughs near different old piers on the beach. Bad thing is the flounder was the only keeper. I guess the whole point of the post was about how different the water and the fishing seems from Ocean Springs/Biloxi to BSL/Waveland. It seems like the west side has more nice troughs and pier remains all along the beach, along with clearer water. I saw tons of bait everywhere and a lot of big fish chasing bait (either jacks or sharks). Also had a big jack swim up pretty close to me...at least that's what I told myself it was [unsure] Anyway, that's the closest thing I have to a report as I'm waiting on the Blazer to get fixed

They have some similarities but are equally different. I only occasionally fish east to Gulfport harbor so other than a night wade in Biloxi with southern salt and a really good trip to the Goula area to send off Kyle I really don't know much about east side past Gulfport harbor. I always felt like the east had more access to deeper water than we do on the west side but not even sure that is true.
I know almost nothing about the west side beyond Gulfport. However, I work at Stennis so maybe I should take some short trips to find a few spots. After a long day of work an hour fishing can be a relief but I don't have time once I've driven all the way back to OS.

Shows you have an eye though being able to find some fish in an area you've never been before. And I always tell myself whatever I saw or pushed all that bait was a redfish haha
I will say this year I have made several trips to the East side and with all the bait in the area I have not seen the first shark, jack or big predators busting the top. On the other hand, last year this same time frame, jacks, Spanish and I assume sharks were often seen busting and circling bait a round the BSL area. Can't explain why the absence of visible predators on the East side.

That's one of the things that really got me. I don't know if I've ever seen anything chasing mullet like that over here in the east. To me fishing the west side almost feels like fishing out at the islands

Friday at one time the bait fish were in a circular area about the size of a football field. Boats on all sides catching white trout. If the would gave been in BSL the predators would gave had a feast. Another thing, no lady fish. Haven't seen any, haven't caught the first one...
It was good meeting you JLadner. I have lived here for 8 years and I have to be honest. In the last 2 years I have seen waaaaay more action than ever from big fish. It is scary when you see a football field of mullet coming at you full speed. It is very strange. I am almost positive its mostly shark/Jacks and Spanish Macks. There are times when I know 100% its sharks, and I don't mean small ones! Went the last couple of days and caught between 50-100 trout and all small and all in the shallows. Only a few keepers. Hoping for some big ones soon

You're welcome for telling you where to go! Hahaha....[toldyouso
I noticed how close in the specks seemed to be too. Pretty much right in the middle of where everyone is swimming and playing, no more than 20-30 yards out
