I'm looking to purchase a new .308 or 7mm - 08 and would like some ideas of what to look at.

What do you guys think is the most accurate rifle straight out of the box. I've always heard the Remington 700, but was just wondering what you guys thought. I have a Rem 700 and love that action but i've also heard really good things about lots of others.

Thanks.

I would take a hard look at a tikka. I love mine. It will shoot inside an inch easy with the right load. Its just like all guns though some loads shoot better than others. I will say it hasn't shot anything I put through it bad, just some a little better than others.

I have a .17 HMR in the Savage and have not been really impressed by the accutrigger. I can't seem to tell much difference when i adjust it.

I haven't looked at Tikka yet. I'll be sure to do that.

What about the T/C icon? Anybody shot one of those?

I shot one of those also. I really don't get the accutrigger. It's like they intentionally added creep in the trigger. Some people seem to like it though.

I have a Remington Model 7. It's smaller and lighter than the 700 and will shoot one ragged hole at 100 yards with Hornady 139 grain SST's. It will shoot 1" - 1 1/2" at 200 yards. Confidence, aint it sexy???

I bought a marlin xl7 in 270 that is a super accurate rifle. I paid $250.00 for it nib. It outshoots most remington rifles I have ever owned. I have read a lot of great reviews on these guns everyone says they outshoot their other guns. They are cheap and great shooters what else could you ask for.

Definitely the Remington 700 model 5R. I've messed with a couple of the new salvages and they are pretty slick but I'm a remington man.

The new Howas are supposedly real accurate as well. They are definitely worth checking out

Remington XHR has a triangle barrel and is very accurate. I bought one in 300 Ultra Mag and using hand loads i was shooting in another rifle i was able to get sub MOA accuracy without any tweeking of the losd.

Plus it has a unique look to it.

I own a Model Seven in 260, a Howa 1500 in 7mm Mag, a Savage Model 12 in 22-250 and a Savage Model 16 in 300WSM and they all shoot 1" except the Howa. I have tried every factory loaded bullet I could get my hands on and some hand loads for it and 2" is about all I can get out of it. That being said, I end up carrying the light little Model Seven most of the time. The 260 Rem does the job. Have taken deer with all but the 22-250 which is a Prairie Dog destroyer.

PFD42,
I agree with you about handling. I love my 700. Its just reaction when shooting it. I don't even have to think about it, it just happpens.

I'm going to look at both Tikka and Howa too.

Great feedback guys, keep em coming.
