Getting ready to dump cableone as my TV programming provider and wondering which is better, Dish or Direct Not interested in AT&T anything.

I don't have a TV in my house. 7 years ago we cut it because work was slow. We grew a custom to not having it. Now, I could have tv but choose not. My house is quieter, we utilize internet for news and shows we want to watch, and we spend more time doing family stuff.
We are too far in the country for cable TV. So we have Directv. We don't like Directv even tho we have had it for several years. Also AT&T sill soon own Directv.
We plan to drop Directv this month or next and just use local channels with an antennae. We also use Netflix and Roku. We use internet also.
This probably doesn't help you any but it's what we do.
I love dish network, I have 6 outdoor hunting and fishing channels, if you decide to go with dish you can use a referral code and we both get. $50
Hmm I'm probably the best person to answer this for you. As I install both dish and directv for a local company. Both of them have their own perks and what not depending on what your looking for. How many TVs? Do you want a dvr and if so how many in the house? What county do you live in as that will change where your locals come from that really only implies to dish. I personally have had direct for like 20 years and am comfortable with it cause of having it so long. Each company had pretty much the same stations and different packages. Both have the outdoor channel but I believe direct has a few more channels. Also AT&T did buy direct but I don't believe anything will change.
I believe I have had them all dish, cable one, uverse and direct tv. Dropped cable one to go back to dish. We have one receiver with a DVr and the basic package. Like most said use Netflix for the majority so a big tv package wasn't really useful for us. They all have their negatives but what I like about directtv is the quality of the hd and I actually really like their remote (makes a difference to me). I haven't had dish for quite a few years so I don't really know how they are now
We have dish and I prefer it to direct TV. Never had U-verse and will prolly give it a try once it becomes available in my area.

I can't stand cableone's remote and that make a big difference to me too.

We recently looked into changing to dish because we thought our contract with direct tv was up. Come to find out, when we added a couple receivers it renewed our contract. I don't think dish has near as many HD channels, but we will consider it again in December. The thing that gets me is they offer all these discounts and newer better equipment to new customers but will not upgrade us unless we pay more money. I would think after our contract was up, they would give us a decent break if we signed on for another two years. They have given us some small discounts and free movie channels for a few months at a time though.

All in all, I have been really happy with direct tv. I just want a freak'n genie![angry]...and a new dvr [sneaky]

Between their remote and DVR it was the last straw for me. Crappy equipment on top of losing channels due to their bargaining agreements was just too much. I will say cable one customer service was great and we kept the internet with them, although it isn't cheap.

We have dealt with the same with directtv. My wife is a skilled negotiator though haha. I think they promised us an upgrade to the genie after a couple more months. Will definitely watch out for them trying to sign another contract.

I will say never take these companies at their first decision. Once you promotional offers expire call them up and start talking about being unhappy. You start talking canceling and hold your ground you will find deals they won't tell you about. If you ever get passed to an account retention specialist you're about to hit gold.

Ha ha....this is all very true. We have been through all this with Directv several times. Our most recent "deal" just ran out so our rate went way back up.
I'm calling them in a day or so to cancel....this time really canceling. When they dropped the Weather Channel we decided to drop them when the latest deal ran out.
I have directv and have been using them for many years. I really have had great service from them. They have a ton of programming (yeah most of it is junk but that's the same no matter the provider). We also get the NFL and MLB packages (Go Saints and Orioles) which I don't think you can get on DISH.

If you do go with directv make sure they give you the Genie DVR. We have a standard DVR which can record two channels at once and I can't tell you how many times we are recording two shows and wish we could do more. Seems like the things we do like to watch all come on at the same time.
I'm a content Direct TV user as well. It's not perfect but I don't think any of these providers are. Direct TV works for us and what we want to spend. (Especially our DTV bundle with ATT internet... it just works best for us, in our location)

My brother has the new U-verse entire package (2 months now) and loves it but his family watches a lot more TV than we do.
Yea my wife is pretty good at getting them to give us free channels and they knock the price down a little for a few months at a time. I think this last person she talked to was just a butt. If I talked to them, we would just not have tv anymore hahaha

Someone mentioned weather channel being dropped. I thought they came back and are on direct tv now.
Rabbit ears and netflix + hulu and internet for us, have done it that way for a while and am quite happy with it. I do miss the sportsmen channels though.
I am stuck with Cable one because of my Internet needs.

About the only thing I miss about the year we spent in Tulsa is Cox cable.
Direct is ok but customer service is some of the worst I have ever experienced!

We were planning on keeping or internet with Cableone. Was thinking of just changing our TV carrier.
My Daughter has Direct TV.They live in Oklahoma.I don't know if their antenna is mounted wrong or what, but they lose the siginal even in a light rain.Im with Cable One & I'll just stay with them.
tv service

We live in the middle of nowhere, and use Dish for TV. Very happy with it, although it doesn't take much of a rainstorm to knock it out briefly, but being surrounded by hundreds of acres of nothing but woods probably doesn't help reception.
Dish is a main focus for us right now. Still got to check prices to see if we will be better off $ wise if we un-bundling our account with Cableone.
