Hello guys, like the message board, Love the state. Anyhow I am from West Virginia and this will be my 3rd trip to the Biloxi/Gulfport area. I am looking for info on areas to fish, I am landlocked so it will be the surf or the Back bay. I am a little experienced with saltwater and have caught a few nice Reds and some greys and specks on previous trips.

What I am really looking for would be a shark (also sheepshead to eat), I am an accomplished fisherman but have never caught a shark of any type. What would be some more popular areas to try and what bait. Thanks for any info.

We got some very good pier fisherman in the Biloxi/Gulfport area so some one will chime in pretty soon. Welcome to the Bull.
I dont pier fish much, but I may be able to lend a hand. A family friend apparently caught a pretty big bull shark on the lighthouse pier a month or two ago. I believe people catch sharks from the broadwater regularly. The drive on pier in biloxi behind the palace should hold drum and sheepshead. I've heard the pier in ocean springs next to the ocean springs/biloxi bridge holds some sheepshead too, and there's usually some flounder hanging around there. Live or dead shrimp should do the job. For sharks on the boat, I used to use croaker heads after I used the body for cut bait, so anything bloody like that should work. I believe some others use whole cut mullet, croaker, etc. Good luck
Best chance for a shark from land, I would say would be Washington st. pier in Bay St. Louis. The next best option to be would be the South East corner of Broadwater.
Hello and welcome to the Bull. This time of the year our sharks will be in close all the way up till the end of Sept. Depending on your setup you can catch em most anywhere but as mentioned pier fishing may be your best bet. To pier fish you will need a pier net, long gaff or rope gaff if you actually want to land your shark for pictures.
I've caught plenty in front of the Gulfport Harbor as well. Pulled in a 5 footer a couple of years ago but most of the sharks will be in the 2-3 foot range. You really don't have to look hard to find the sharks. If our swimmers knew how many sharks were out there, they probably wouldn't get back in the water. You can use any type of cut bait, the bloodier the better. If you have a few extra dollars and time, I would recommend getting on a charter for half day and they will put you on whatever you want. Good Luck!

After years of surf fishing on the Florida east coast and other beaches, and after hooking and sometimes landing numerous large inshore sharks within 20 yards of the beach.....I don't swim in the surf anymore. Paranoia? Maybe, but between sand in the crack and salt in your eyes....sharks made it an easy choice!
Man in ocean springs I've caught two small sharp nose and one decent black tip..
And for black drum go to longbeach with cracked crab... as far as reds right mow it's just a waiting game till you get a bite just gonna have to be patient. .
Hope it helps....
Cats out of the bag in WV I guess everyone there just wants to fish the Mississippi coast. Broadwater is good for sharks and bull reds. The fishing bridge is good for everything else.
I have family now in Gulfport, if my kids were not so far along in school I would transplant to the area. Broadwater? I have found a few places on my own on previous trips, just looking for a bit of local knowledge. I really appreciate the help. I tried fishing near the shrimp boats in D'lberville mostly just hardheads but really fun for the kids.
Broadwater is that big cemented area accross from the treasure bay casino.
Welcome to the Bull and I hope you find what you're looking for
Cracked crab at Washington St pier, BSL. Sharks, reds, and Black Drum.
