I heard a dirty rumor today that some of the public lands that are usually draw areas will be closed this season… any truth to this?

The way Obama is trying to tick everyone off, and with his anti-gun anti-hunting following I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to outlaw hunting on all federal lands.
I heard that Panther was closed and when my dad looked to apply for the muzzleloader draw, he said it wasn't on there...

Some of it may be true, but in the past I don't think the draws are available until mid to late august.
Yes I talked to the department of wildlife and panther is closed for three years . They are trying to let the deer mature.
Heard Obama was allowing a nudist colony to have it for the next three years. You have to be over fifty to join though so I weren't interested. Also, I would hate to be labeled a home wrecker.

Heard the same. You ARE required to be over 50 to join, but you can apply early and get "preference points".[biggrin]
Nope you are all wrong. I talked to the lady that is running things up there and she said that it was going to close for habitat preservation. Seams that closing the atv trails helped but now all the foot traffic and deer dragging is hurting the environment and she said they need to get it back in order.
For all you folks that are calling the (AKA) Public land office...... Quit bugging them.

Why? [confused]
Some of these guys depend on public land for their hunting.....I would like to know as soon as possible, to make plans to fine another place as fast as I could,
If it was me, I would like to know.
If they have a problem answering questions....That is not the job for them.
I think they have every right to check on land, their taxes paid for....JMO

Yes, you do have the right to know, but if you believe this post then I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you. I only hunt public land myself and could only laugh when I first saw this post. Although, we may one day very well have to worry about hunting rights on these lands I do not think we are there yet.
I do not work there, but know several that do. They get a ton of calls. The MDWFP brochures came out August 1st. A couple of other federal land NWR brochures are out already. One in particular is not so I understand wanting to know, but spreading "dirty little rumors"?????
By the way, I hunt WMA's, NWR's, COE and even Private land, so finding another place to hunt for me is not that big of a deal.

I thought there was just length requirements, no preference points?!?!?!?!?
Brochures are now online!

Edit: Well all but one, I may very well have to eat crow if it is closed.

Edit- No Crow for me.
I just talked to one of the officers at TR. Draw hunts for active duty military and military retirees only this year.
What about pigs? They will expand into downtown yazoo city if nobody shoots them for 3 years.

How much land do you think MDWFP owns and where do the funds come from for ant of the many acres they do manage. When you find those answers you will see how close the public was at risk of losing many acres of hunting ground this year.
