*LATE REPORT*

Last Saturday was a tough one! Roscoe was out of Croaker at 5am! Had to go with the live shrimp, which I prefer NOT to do this time of year. Thise that know me, know I am a croaker soaker by nature (except at Chandy).
I did get to say good morning to Capt Ronnie as we both motored out of the harbor, so it wasn't too bad.
1st stop - Ladyfish in the dark.
2nd stop - Ladyfish in the dawn's hue.
3rd stop - Ladyfish and sharks in the sunshine.
4th stop - DOUBLED UP ON TROUT!

Unfortunately, it stayed a little slow. We kept moving in this general area (in the marsh) and were only picking up a trout here and a trout there. I did get nearly spooled not once, not twice, but three times by sharks on my lighter trout rods. Each time as I got near the end of my line, I would tighten down on the drag and let them snap my leader.
One thing though, this area was covered in Bull reds. I would fight one and we would move a bit, catch a trout....and then more bulls. Move, catch a trout....and still more bulls. We really couldn't get away from them the rest of the day. I do not really recall them being this thick during the dog days around the islands. They were acting more like it was a fall or spring type pattern.
Oh well, only a dozen keeper trout. And, only 3 Reds small enough for my freezer.
Even though we didn't hammer them, we still were able to get plenty of fish action.
Here's a shot of one of the bulls, a 38 incher.

Not sure if it was Bulls or what but yesterday around 4pm I was driving hwy 90 and at the end of Menge ave and at the end of Espy avenue something was slaughtering the mullet in very shallow water. I stopped the car and just watched and areas as big as football fields squared had water flying in the air non stop. What ever it was the school was much large at the end of Espy than at Menge ave. they were about 75 yds off the beach.
That's wild SJ I was coming across the homeport bridge this evening and saw the same thing happening around the mouth of West river in Gautier. I stopped and watched too, it was a trip. Never saw any porpoise fins or anything so I'm not sure what it was but they were throwing water everywhere
Didn't see em, but when I was taking out at Biloxi this afternoon a guy told me that it looked like a 3 acre area of bulls in front off the whitehouse. Very unusual for this time of the year for sure.

Why don't you use croakers at Chandy? Do you normally use artificial there?

I only use artificials at Chandy Mike. I catch too much "trash" with live.

That is my favorite fishing; drifting over the grassbeds with soft plastic under a Boat Monkey. When you get into them....there's just nothing like it to me.
Capt. I know it's been a slow year out there this year but are that usually many Reds at Chandy in August?

No Sir,

But I wasn't at Chandy this trip. I just mentioned it off-handedly during the report when I was talking about bait. I was in the eastern Marsh.
There's some bull reds and jacks in the back bay right now too working the mullet. Watched them for an hour at lunch today.

If your not too tight lipped where at in the back bay I have a couple reels that need a good work out.
