Shortage Of Vetch?

I’ve called numerous feed stores and co-ops and can not find vetch. They all keep saying there’s a shortage and they can’t order anymore.

I can't find Di-Cal for my mineral licks. One Co-op said they haven't been able to get any since last fall.

Thats what we were told as well including from the co-op where we had booked our order. They got shorted so we didn't get any from them. After calling around, the only place we could find it was Port Gibson. That was 3 weeks ago so I don't know if they still have any.

My understanding about vetch is that there aren't but a handful of producers. They all sell to wholesalers that ship to the various co-ops and retailers. When that wholesale to retail shipment goes out, that's it for the year.

Guess I’m just gonna plant a mix of whatever I can find at my closest co-op.

Anyone have experience planting a spring/summer mix and deer utilizing it? No idea what’s in it besides soybean, cow pea, corn, and sunflower. I plan on tossing some lime out then tilling these plots this weekend. It’ll be 1st time tilling these plots in a couple years. I sprayed them 3 weeks ago.
If your objective is to keep deer on your property and/or increase their nutrition, I recommend fertilizing the natural vegetation that they already target. If you want to spend extra the money on seed and fertilizer plus diesel then by all means go ahead. I've seen deer obliterate ragweed that was areal sprayed with fertilizer on GP land we were trapping turkeys on in central MS. Many of the native plants have nutrients the deer need already but adding a little extra something to sweeten it will go a long way. Just my two cents there, sir.

Green Cover seeds has some good summer blends.

If you buy local, I would try to find some indeterminate forage soybeans and alyceclover if you can find them.

These plots are on a large Weyerhaeuser club in pine country and I’m limited to where I can go. (basically have to stay around my 3 stands) Last year I planted vetch and cow peas and they of course destroyed the peas and ate the vetch till frost killed it.

Plus I have to give the wife a good reason why I “needed” a tractor!!!! haha

My closest co-op has a mix and I’m gonna pick up an extra bag or 2 of peas and maybe some alyce clover.

Well after tossing out seeds had about a 4 min rain on them. Hoping we get a scattered shower this week to give them the extra boost. Also had hogs show up and eat the corn, soybean and cow peas that didn’t get covered. I’ll have a nice dove field for that plot I guess with the sorghum and millet that they didn’t eat.
