Stay clear of Southern Heritage Kennels in Lumberton, Ms

Based on my experience, the proprietor is a hack and he has a lot of dogs die. I put a deposit down on a puppy in a litter, the whole litter died at some point. He, Glen Rushing, did not even attempt to notify my wife or I that they had died. All I had was some dates that he had given me on regarding when they would be ready to pick up. Well, I was going to pick the puppy up on my way home from Houma (work offshore) so my wife called because he wasn't responding to my emails. Turns out the litter died and now he doesn't want to refund the deposit. Says he'll still get us a dog but he doesn't do refunds (non-refundable deposit is not stipulated).

I edited per the request of Southern Heritage Kennels and threat of legal action. Apparently he reads this forum. So, this will be deleted as soon as my deposit, however small it may be, is returned.

Dang. Hope they make it right for you.
What kind of dogs does he breed?
Blackmouths, I think.
fullstrut, if you are still in the market for a Blackmouth Cur, the guy that mine came from just east of Monroe, LA has a litter on the way in about a month (Ladner Bred). If you are interested I can get you his contact information. Sorry to hear about your other experience.
Thanks Bloodthirsty, but I got one from some folks in Marion, La.
Great! Best of luck with yours/ya'll's......they are an amazing breed!
Wow, that stinks. Imagine if you'd taken that pup home. You'd be out a bunch of money on vet bills in addition to having spent the full purchase price, and probably ended up with a dead pup.

Glad you were able to get a healthy pup from a more reputable breeder. He is adorable!
Yea. You'll be Glad it worked out like it did in the long run in sure. Even if you end up out $150 you gotta fine pup now

Can't say that as a matter of fact. I've talked to at least two people that are pleased with their dogs from this breeder. I do want to specify that I can only comment with any certainty regarding my experience, other negative experiences I only heard second hand at best and I cannot validate..... Or invalidate.
It ALWAYS pays to do your homework, very carefully, when choosing a breeder in the curdog world.

FullStrut - If you get any more threats of legal action, feel free to call me at the office: (601) 898-9887......

Mark.
I'm sure he can afford to take legal action on you, especially since he can't afford to give you you're deposit back...

Understood, but from what I've seen, when a whole litter dies it's usually because the breeder didn't vaccinate properly. Pups that haven't been properly vaccinated get REAL expensive if they make it to your house before they actually get sick... those vet bills can make a $300 purchase price look CHEAP... just sayin', you probably dodged a bullet on that deal...
He said it was bad vaccines
Anyone else dealt with southern heritage kennel? I was trying to get some or any additional information. I read about the litter dying, that's awful but wondering about any other good or bad reviews.
I bought a male pup from him about 3 years ago. He had several litters at the time and all looked healthy to me. My dog did fine, as far as surviving, but he never did make a good tree dog. But, neither have the last several blackmouths i have owned.
Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it.
With my limited experience with dog breeder's and kennels, I have decided they are like used car salesmen. You got some good ones and you got some bad ones.
