Something else to note for single shot break open guns. I was having trouble with consistency with our encore some years back. I did a little research and a recurring theme kept popping up which is forearm/barrel contact. I checked my gun and the forearm was in contact with the barrel and frame in numerous places. After sticking a couple of washers in between the forearm and barrel at the screw holes and a lock washer in between the screw and forearm it pretty much solved that issue for my gun. It won't win any long-range competitions, but it pretty much shoots within 1.5 MOA now. Plenty good enough for me. I did the same thing for my H&R 444 marlin and it shrunk the groups on that as well.

Obviously your gun may just not like that round or that grain bullet but just wanted to relay something that worked for me.

I had an encore in 7MM-08 once. Reloaded everything I could get my hands on but never found anything it liked. made sure I Free floated the handguard but never got any better. Sold it and bought a Browning A-bolt in 7MM-08 and never looked back.

The biggest accuracy killer in an Encore isn't the forearm. It is the hinge pin. Many Encore frames have slightly oversized hinge pin holes - just enough to cause wiggle and inaccuracy. Bellm sells oversized hinge pins for just that reason.

I have 2 different barrels for my Encore (.280& .35 whelen) and neither of them shoot as well as they should. You're problem is likely the gun🙁 That being said I would definitely try 140 grain bullets and I have been impressed with Federal Fusion. The best thing is that they're cheap so you aren't out much if your gun doesn't like them. You could also check the hinge pin, forearm and maybe add a stronger hammer spring.

Having a problem getting the Hornadys Precision Hunter 150gr to group in the TC, What ammo have you TC shooters had the best luck with? I need something for caribou.
I tried every commercial brand and load and it shot patterns, not groups. My best hand load was a 170gr Sierra round nose and that was 1.5” groups at 50 yards. It went back to T/C twice and they said there was no problem but wouldn’t tell me the ammo they used. I thought it might be barrel harmonics so I cut three inches off the barrel (in one inch increments) and I’m down to .5” groups at 50 yards with 170 gr Sierra round nose but it still shoots patterns with lighter bullets. I now own a 100 yard hog rifle.
