Took the girls ( Wife and Granddaugher) White Trout Fishing this AM. They weren't too eager at 4:30AM, but a good time was had by all.

We were on the water a little before 6AM and the rain finally ran us off at little before 10AM. Never got out of sight of Courthouse

Ended the day with 3 Speckled Trout, 18 White Trout and 12 Ground Mullet. All caught on carolina rigged dead shrimp.

Only 2 hardheads for the day. I think we need a category to the upcoming Hardhead Classic for the Prettiest Hardhead. Both were 8" and had bright blue lit up tails like a red fish. I haven't ever seen a hardhead with that pretty of a tail. Sorry I didn't get any picks. Boat Position Director, Bait Manager, Tangler gettier outer, Fish Remover, and all around general deck hand didn't leave me a lot of time as photographer.

Granddaughter and one of her best white trout.

Diane and her first Speckled Trout

And Diane with the entire haul. Miss priss couldn't wait to pose at the cleaning table she needed a shower NOW!

And finally, can someone ID this for me, seems like some kind of a shad, but caught it out front.

Wow, guess I am lucky the hook fell out. I never even thought to check him from Chompers and handled him like a shad (Funny thing when I googled Blue fish turns out they call them Shad in South Africa - Shad is just one of those words that I think means fish) !
Hey Pete those Bluefish have sharp fin at or near the anal fin that will cut you like a razor if you let it slip.... Looks like you all had fun for sure.
Bluefish are great smoked!

Or used to catch giant AJ's ;)

I think that poke from the hardhead the other day has made you a have a little soft spot in your hand...er heart for the saltykittens [laugh]

Well done on putting the ladies on some fish!
Too cool having a day with your girls.

A "pretty" hardhead???? Seriously?

You're getting soft Bro! LOL!
Very nice pete...those women looked like they had a blast[thumbup],,,couple questions tho....after the pose with the fish at the cleaning table did the fish get cleaned? If she did clean em does she have a single sister? And you say 'PRETTY" hardhead huh?.....not sure if even I could put that in as a catagorie........im gonna need 'pretty' pics to look at first.....

But seriously,if your wife and grandaughter had fun then it was a day well spent for you sir!!!...
Very happy that you were able to get the ladies on some fish. Their smiles tell the story. Nice job pete.
Nice haul. Those blue fish aint to bad fried up either. To me they taste a lot like mullet.

[rofl] Maybe, but Diane wanted me to take a photo of Katie with the one she caught and I wasn't having any of it. The way my hand still hurts, I was flipping those cats off the hook pretty **** fast.
Good job Pete.. You can see they had a great time.

She stood in the kitchen and took the pan with the cleaned fish from me so I could go toss the carcasses, does that count?

This was the first time I was able to get her on a decent bite. She did say, that was kind of fun, think I might go with you more often now. hmmm.... not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing [rofl]
Funny that a few of you say the Blue fish are not bad to eat. Guess the guy that writes for Fish of the Gulf has a different opinion, or at least failed Marketing 101 [rofl] Just another reason I always try it for myself instead of taking someone's word for it.

What size Blue fish do you all keep? It looked like it would clean similar to a Mackerel, and don't think I would keep a Mackerel that size.

Food Value : Barely edible if grilled or broiled. The flesh is gray after cooking and strong-tasting

..............and oily too.

When I was stationed in Maine we would catch them in the summer months. But they were BIG! It was nothing to catch them the size of Big Bulls. I have a photo somewhere of me holding a 36 incher.
They would soak them in lemon juice fillets that were cut into planks, sprinkle Goya Adobo seasoning, lay orange slices over them and wrap them up in foil. They took a toothpick and poked a small hole on each side and tossed them on the grill.
It came out really firm, almost as firm as chicken meat.
I used to keep 2-3 lbrs when surf fishing the Florida coast. I made sure to cut out the large blood line. Then I would fry them up. Not too bad, but you can tell they are an oily fish. It ain't the same as trout, flounder, etc.
Blue fish are good to eat fresh, same day. Try to freeze and they go to mush.
Smiles on every face. I would say great day for sure. I am sure you are feeling blessed. I pray it only gets better for you.
