Oh wise ones give me your wisdom. Now that I live on the water, and can sneak out and fish every other morning or so. I am thinking it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of traps down at the dock. A few live baits to get the AM started right isn't against my religion, and always easy to get wife interested in going if she can have the faster action of live bait.

So knowing that I am just inside a canal off the biloxi, just south of the power plant. will traps at the dock work out for me? what kind, what bait, any other suggestions.

And although I am horrible at it I am not opposed to casting a net, but is there anywhere near me that is a good spot to cast for Bull Minnows? Going to the bait shop defeats the purpose of having the boat at the back door and having to run several miles back to the bay defeats the purpose of being able to run the "big motor" for a couple of minutes to be on the fishing hole. Most of what I have seen around me is really grassy and would not be good for casting a net but maybe I am just not looking in the right area.

Should be able to catch bull minnows near the shoreline. Just set a trap with a crushed crab or bread if a crab isn't available. You want it next to the shoreline, but deep enough so that it's not high and dry when the tide falls. At my place, can usually get a dozen or so within an hour.

Crushed crab IS the best bait, but sometimes hard to get. Try cans of cat food put into the trap with many holes made by beer-can opener. These were caught in Poticaw Bayou, but the Biloxi-Tchoutacabouffa Rivers may have their share, or the trap(s) and catfood bait may pick up some growing shrimp of the salt water (Peneas species) variety.

I have a square mesh collaspable minnow trap that I picked up at walmart earlier this year. I tossed a hand full of dog food in it (high end blue science stuff but I suspect brand doesn't matter [rofl] ), not long after I started this topic. Just checked it and already have 6 pin fish, so if nothing else I will have a supply of pin fish for live baiting.

MOE you have me thinking these are probably Bream instead of Pinfish seeing as where I am located. Which is bad news if the case as they seem to like my trap and seem plentful at my dock. Whats the best way to ID?

Well they would all eventually have a hook in their mouth [rofl]

But seriously I try to follow the rules whenever I can.

So that puts me back at not having any luck with traps at my dock. Going to have to find a near buy place for traps or netting.

Easier solution Pete. You make me and outlook calender and send me the invite. Ill review your projected fishing days and ill call in sick those days with pre written Dr. notes. Ill stop by LB Harbor on the way your place grab a copious amount of minnows then we slay the specks and founders. That sounds like a plan to me, no? [thumbup][rofl]

I don't have a lot of time to fish, but I managed to highlight a few days on the calendar that I should be able to fish. Hopefully one of those days will fit your schedule as well.
